The Ivanhoe Homes mission is the relief of suffering through the provision of friendly, low cost accommodation for patients and their carers coming to Melbourne for hospital treatmentThe Foundation is non-denominational and non-discriminatory. Any individual referred by a hospital social worker or other professional is accepted. Carers are also accommodated alone when a patient is hospitalisedThe Ivanhoe Homes is part of the world-wide mission of the late Group Captain Lord Cheshire VC, the most highly-decorated service person in the Second World War, and his wife the late Baroness Sue Ryder, herself a distinguished war hero, who devoted their lives to the relief of human sufferingThe Committee of Management is comprised of local people and everything they do is on a voluntary basis. Community groups, church groups and local and country individuals support the Homes. Residents and volunteers assist with the many domestic and administrative tasks associated with the Homes
