Oil & Energy - Sheikhupura, Punjab, Pakistan
The Complex is a conventional steam thermal power plant comprising of one steam generator, one unit of steam turbine and generator, auxiliary systems and plant control system. The outdoor steam generator is a drum type boiler, forced draft, natural circulation type with welded membrane wall tube construction. The primary fuel is high sulfur furnace oil, with high-speed diesel being available for ignitors. The boiler produces steam which is fed to the steam turbine. The boiler also superheats the steam exhausted from the high pressure turbine via the reheater section and returns to the turbine via combined reheat valves. The combustion air is fed into the boiler though a forced draft fan, which keeps positive pressure in the boiler. The fuel is heated to the desired temperature before entry into the burner, the fuel is further atomized through steam in the main burner. Combustion air is also heated before it enters the furnace. Through such exhaustive design measures, higher combustion efficiency is achieved. Continuous monitoring of the flame is done and the burner is cut off should any value exceed the allowable limits. The flue gases from boiler are made to pass through an Electrostatic Precipitator, which captures the unburnt carbon and soot, and prevents them from going into the atmosphere. Continuous monitoring of the flue gas temperature, carbon dioxide, NOx, Opacity and Excess Oxygen is also being done to meet the environmental standards. Safety valves are placed on drum and super heater outlet to ensure safe operations and these are tested yearly. The boiler is also inspected by the Boiler Inspector on yearly basis.
