Safe Water Sports is a non-profit organization founded in June 2015 with the interest of providing information and raising awareness to the general public on safety matters related to recreational water activities and water sports aiming to strengthen water safety standards and regulations to prevent drownings and water accidents.One of its primary goals is the education of children, on all matters relating to safety in the water and in water - related recreational activities (ex. water sports). The Organization is co-operating with the Private and Public sector to achieve the enhancement of the broader institutional framework governing water safety.The Organization is currenty active in Greece and Cyprus.Safe Water Sports has also created a web site & mobile apps that provide information for Greece and Cyprus regarding:- All the licensed water sports centers (water ski, scuba diving, tubes, kite surf, etc.)- 3.600+ accessible beaches with all their safety features (i.e if there is a lifeguard, deep/shallow water, the typeof the beach - e.g. sandy, rocky etc.,-the length of the beach, if it is organized with sunbeds and beach umbrellas, if it provides access to PWD, public health services, parking, etc.), an indicative photo, their map location as well as other useful information- The marines and in general all the mooring locations and the services provided there- The boat rental agencies leasing all types of vessels for recreation- All hospitals and health centers and full contact details- The Port Authorities throughout the country and contact details- The applicable safety regulations (legislation) for water related sports and recreational activitiesSafe Water Sports in cooperation with the Ministry of Maritime established the 11th of May as the National Day for the Prevention of Drownings and Sea Accidents. Greece has been the first country that undergoes such an initiative on an international level.
