The School of Applied Financial Management (SAFiM) is a learning and development institution that is offering a blended learning experience for accounting and finance professionals in industry. The objective is to assist the finance function leadership in developing their support team's necessary skills [both technical (hard) and soft skills] to ensure that the each team member contributes effectively to the department's peak performance. Age old wisdom says, "for the strength of the wolf is the pack and strength of the pack is the wolf". This signifies that as a leader of your finance function, the department you lead is only as strong as its weakest link. A study of organisational failures can confirm the importance of a strong finance function. Therefore, the health of the finance finance could be deemed a reliable predictor of organisational success or failure. SAFiM is the direct result of research conducted on close to 50 Finance Function Leaders in Zimbabwe over a six month period, commencing in September 2017 and being concluded in February 2018, representing close to 450 accounting and finance staff members within their departments, across 8 main sectors. The survey was intended to summarise their views of the key indicators of a peak performing finance function, whilst also providing insights into the key (specific) impediments they faced in pursuit of peak performance. In addition, the survey revealed which technical and soft skills within the finance function were of most importance. SAFiM focuses on providing financial management staff with the specific technical and soft skills through in class training workshops as well as At Your Workplace learning solutions through the SAFiM elearning platform. We envision a future where all levels of financial management staff will be peak performers, for the sustainability of the organisations they serve, through the full application of their skills.Visit www.safim.africa for more details.
