The SAG Conference Award Foundation is an incorporated Society operating under the British Columbia Societies Act. The Foundation finances and appoints an organizing host committee for the SAG Conference that takes place every 4 years in Vancouver, British Columbia.The SAG Conference is the premier international technical conference on comminution and related subjects. The original conference that took place in 1989 established a forum for the mining industry to meet and discuss operations, maintenance, and advancements in semi-autogenous grinding milling technologies; and the conference has since expanded to include technical programming on high pressure grinding rolls and other crushing technology, autogenous milling, rod and ball milling, fine grinding and ultra-fine grinding. The most recent conferences have included subject matter relating to energy management, mine-to-mill strategy, pre-concentration, and ore sorting. While the scope of the conference focuses on real operating examples, papers and presentations have featured talks that have addressed diversity, leadership, testing, geometallurgy, design, modelling, process control, artificial intelligence, and mining and processing in extreme environments.The Conference hosts field trips to select mining operations in British Columbia and Western Canada following the Conference. Since 2015, the Conference has incorporated a trade show, with representation from OEM companies and consultants from around the world.Proceeds from the Conference are distributed either directly through scholarships, or indirectly through giving agreements, to post-secondary students enrolled in technical college, undergraduate, or graduate university studies.The current Board consists of Mike Samuels (President), Alex Doll (Vice-President), Kelly McLeod (Treasurer), Cassandra Spence (Corporate Secretary), Greg Rasmussen (Director at Large) and Berge Simonian (Director at Large).
