Sakhi Kendra is a non profit charitable organization working for Womens Empowerment Gender Equity and Gender Justice to build a healthy society. Sakhi Kendra is not the outcome of one day efforts but many movements and a lot of struggle lies in the foundation of it. Few of them are mentioned here-Trade Union Movement in Kanpur(1977-78) by the employees of Union to provide the labourers of the slums with basic amenities. This modest movement branched into mightier wave with the active involvement of house wives nurses teachers and working women committees. The issues of exploitation of contractual women workers and housewives were considered seriously. It resulted in emergence of many local Working Women Organizations.
