SALDEHCO Pty Ltd (Saldehco) was established as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) and was designated preferred bidder by Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA), and subsequently executed a Facility Operator Agreement(FOA) with TNPA for the twenty-year concession for the design, financing, construction, operation, maintenance and eventual handover of the first dedicated Facility at the Port of Saldanha providing generalist and specialist services to vessels, rigs and offshore platforms traversing and/or operating off the coast of Africa, otherwise known as an Offshore Support and Supply Base [OSSB], signed April 2018.The project is part of the development of the ocean economy industry in the Saldahna Bay area, Western Cape, under "Operation Phakisa", which aims to unlock the economic potential of South Africa's oceans, which contribute up to R177 billion to the GDP by 2033 and between 800 000 and 1 million direct jobs.Saldehco's focus on providing an infrastructural solution and on- and off-shore (in port and out-of-port) logistics services to support general marine-related activity from all types of vessels and marine assets the South Africa waters. Some of the services will include: Storage facilities, Lube Blending facilities, Waste Disposal Services, Warehousing and Material and Off-loafing facilities.The OSSB will also operate within the country's first special economic zone (SEZ) located at a commercial port. For this to be in effect, a sub-lease agreement between Saldehco and Saldahna Bay Industrial Development Zone (SBIDZ).
