Sancaktepe is a district on the Asian Side of Istanbul. It is a district that gained district status in 2008. It is neighbor to Kartal in the south, Maltepe in the southwest, Ataşehir and Ümraniye in the west, Çekmeköy in the north, Pendik and Sultanbeyli in the east. Our district is 62.41 square kilometers, its population is 436.733 and there are a total of 19 neighborhoods within its borders. It was formed by the combination of Sarigazi, Yenidogan and Samandıra towns of Kartal, which are connected to Umraniye.Europe's biggest city hospital Dr. İlhan Varank Sancaktepe Training and Research Hospital and Prof. Dr Feriha Öz Emergency Hospital is located in our district and at the same time, the connection roads of Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge pass through our district borders. While our municipality building is in Sarıgazi; In January 2018, it moved to the New Town Hall, Samandıra.In the 2019 Local Elections, Lawyer Şeyma Döğücü became the second mayor of the district's history.Döğücü is also the only female district mayor in Istanbul.
