I am a woodworker and have been for 45 years. I currently specialize in handmade or handcrafted, turned wooden objects including bowls, platters and hollow forms. In other words, I turn things on a lathe. I grew up on the west coast, California and Washington and moved to North Carolina with my family when I was 16. Talk about culture shock! My first job as a professional woodworker was as an apprentice to Robert S. Brunk in his workshop on top of a mountain in western North Carolina in the early 70's. I lived in a geodesic dome and walked a few hundred yards to work every day. We made cutting boards, puzzles and furniture. Bob taught me to appreciate highly figured wood and most importantly to strive for perfection in everything I made. I have made furniture and cabinets and built my own home with red oak post and beam construction. The posts and beams as well as all of the window and door trim, moldings and desks and counter tops we made in my current shop. We live and work on 40 acres in Rowan County about 50 miles north of Charlotte, NC. We have been here 32 years. I have a website, http://www.sandersfinewoodworking.com and a few pieces on the AAW (American Association of Woodturners) website: http://www.woodturner.org. I also have a blog where I post some thoughts at: http://ssandestev.wordpress.com/ Beautiful wood with a gallery quality finish is my specialty.
