Santa Cruz Black Youth Empowerment Workshop Details
Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, this workshop was started in order to co-create a safe space for Black students to discuss current events in a space where they are seen and valued. The goal of the workshop is to empower Black high schoolers through the teachings of Black history and youth organizing grounded in critical race and ethnic studies curricula and Black feminist theory. Most importantly, we encourage students to use their inherent power to empower other students and demand for a more just world for themselves. As a Black student from Santa Cruz majoring in Ethnic Studies and Environmental Science at Santa Clara University, I know how valuable this education can be for Black students. It is the goal of this organization to give this knowledge back to the community.
