Plastic/Rubber - N/A, N/A, gb
We live in an era where customers have become acutely aware of the plastic crisis facing our oceans, and demand for products that use reclaimed ocean plastic has never been higher. Meanwhile, the nascent scale of global clean-up infrastructure has insured that reclaimed plastic products are rarely available to customers in any product category. However, this is beginning to change, and The Ocean Cleanup in Rotterdam is one example of an organization with plans to make reclaimed plastics available for commercial purposes in the near term. Systems are being put into place to access this demand, and now is an ideal time to lay the groundwork for reclaimed plastic products.Sargasso Insulation plans to offer a new product category in home insulation, designed to be composed of nylon fishing nets reclaimed directly from oceanic plastic clouds. Nylon has solid insulating properties, and we expect that with a modest R&D investment, Sargasso will be able to prototype a material with insulation specifications on par with industry standards such as fiberglass or mineral fiber. Insulation, a $52 billion industry, already has significant market share controlled by unorthodox and novel materials, often able to achieve robust sales despite a price offering far higher than industry staples. Further, many of these options already compete on their environmental footprint, and we are confident our offering will solidly out class all rivals in this area.
