Pharmaceutical waste is a growing concern and is a problem worldwide as there are no strict rules and regulations for pharmaceutical waste disposal. Currently, the pharmaceutical waste is being disposed off just like normal household waste. Satva Health Solutions, the brain-child of Mr. Shashi Mohan, a pharmacist from Chikkabalapura came to know of this universal issue and planned to do something to root out the issue and help protect the environment. He set up Satva at Bengaluru the hub of all innovations with an aim of going pan India. However, little did he know that the path he chose was not an easy one and would have difficulty in financial front and also disposal of pharmaceutical waste. Furthermore, due to non-stringent rules and regulations could with lack of awareness towards positive, clean and safe disposal of pharmaceutical waste, we are not getting much support. Despite all the hurdles, we have so far collected more than 150 tonnes of pharmaceutical waste.Satva Health Solutions is the only organization to have approval and license to process and dispose pharmaceutical waste in Karnataka. The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board has authorized us, by providing the license to collect, handle and dispose pharma waste with all due care. Further, the Drug Control Board, Karnataka, has also made it mandatory for all the retailers, wholesalers and all other units that handle pharmaceuticals to tie up with a licensed waste management unit to ensure scientific disposal of pharma waste.We have also partnered with premier research institutes and are working towards sustainable plant nutrients that could replace the use of pesticides and chemicals giving us cleaner. healthier and safer food!
