The SAVE Travel Alliance is a global network of networks, connecting peers in the travel industry who are dedicated to promoting scientific, academic, volunteer and educational travel abroad.The SAVE Travel Alliance is a pioneer in the development of SAVE market niches and in helping countries to benefit from the global trend toward individual and corporate volunteerism across borders. The ultimate goal of the SAVE Travel Alliance is to build the capacity of developing countries to identify, develop and market SAVE volunteerism opportunities to achieve core economic development goals in concert with cultural heritage preservation, environmental conservation, and building scientific capacity.In promoting sustainable and meaningful travel in developing destinations, The SAVE Travel Alliances seeks to: • Improve the global flow of information about SAVE opportunities to volunteers and travel service providers; • Assist developing countries in accessing SAVE market segments and distribution channels; • Provide capacity building programs that enable government agencies, NGOs and the private sector to incorporate the SAVE approach into their on-going activities; • Engage in strategic research that identifies innovative ways in which responsible travel can contribute to achieving sustainable benefits for host countries;• Integrate volunteer scientific, academic and educational programs as core components of international development assistance policies and practices. • Provide workforce development opportunities for local communities by conducting tourism workforce assessments and coordinating skills-improvement workshops.In its 10 years of existence, the SAVE global travel initiative has been implemented in sustainable tourism development projects around the world.
