Healthcare Facility/Healthcare Services - Kansas City, MO, US
KidSight is a signature program developed by Saving Sight, a nonprofit organization that provides eye banking and charitable vision services. Since KidSight began in 1995, it has grown into a statewide mobile program. We screen more than 67,000 Missouri children ages 6 months to 6 years of age annually for vision disorders; which includes the most common causes of childhood vision loss, amblyopia (lazy eye) and strabismus (crossed eyes). KidSight obtained its 501(c)3 status in 2016, establishing its own mission and goals to prevent vision conditions and promote healthy eyesight in children. KidSight technicians and volunteers provide free, non-invasive vision screenings at Head Start, preschools, childcare programs, elementary schools and public events throughout Missouri. When KidSight technicians identify children at risk for vision loss, they provide families accurate and timely results, easy to understand information about their child's possible vision disorder, and resources to connect families with child-friendly eye doctors near them who meet their specific needs. All children screened are provided education about preventative eye health. Through individualized follow-up of referral families, KidSight ensures children receive the vision care they need to prevent future education delays and/or a lifetime of vision loss.
