Individual & Family Services - , California, United States
Brain Injury Network of the Bay Area (BINBA) aka Marin Brain Injury Network (MBIN) is the only post-acute, nonprofit therapeutic center in the North Bay offering programs and services to those whose lives have been impacted by a brain injury. Too often, individuals who have suffered a brain injury are released from acute facilities to resume their lives with little or no guidance or long-term plan for recovery. Our mission is to help individuals and their families cope with the challenges of the recovery process. Traumatic brain injury can happen suddenly and without warning. It can result in devastating disabilities that alter the way we think, move, speak, feel, and relate to others. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 1.7 million Americans suffer a traumatic brain injury every year. In addition, other types of brain injury can occur from events such as stroke, loss of oxygen, and viral infections. A stroke alone happens every 40 seconds in the United States and is the leading cause of long-term disability. BINBA is committed to the belief that everyone should have access to our programs and services regardless of financial ability. Many of the individuals we serve are low income and living on disability, and for this reason, we offer our services on a sliding scale. Community support is a critical component to BINBA's ability to offer these services.
