In May 2022, the Volkswagen Group announced their plan to grow in America by investing in the revival of the iconic Scout brand and the development of all-electric pick-up trucks and rugged SUVs. To this end, a separate, independent company, Scout Motors, was established in the U.S. to design, engineer, and manufacture all-electric pick-up trucks and rugged SUVs in America, for American customers. By combining an entrepreneurial approach and the backing of the Volkswagen Group, Scout Motors will unveil its first prototypes in 2023 and begin production in 2026. The electrified Scout brand will be built upon a new technical platform concept which delivers rugged credibility beyond the existing Volkswagen Group portfolio. Scout Motors' products will combine credible capability, American authenticity, and new American innovation in order to win in the core of the U.S. market and to win the approval of its brand enthusiasts.
