Leisure, Travel & Tourism - Brighton, England, United Kingdom
Sea Lanes Brighton propose to transform the former Peter Pan site on Madeira Drive, Brighton, by delving deep into its history and culture and reviving competitive and recreational sea-swimming on Brighton Seafront. The vision is to create the UK's first national open water swimming centre of excellence. As the wider master plan for the area is finalised Sea Lanes will be taking the first step towards this vision with a planning application for a 5 year meanwhile development consisting of:– Heated 25m outdoor swimming pool and associated facilities– Boardwalk to the sea– Endless pool training facility– Ancillary commercial buildings providing flexible space for small businessesAt the heart of the scheme is the swimming pool, which will be accessible to all. The pool will provide much needed swimming facilities in Brighton and will act as a gateway for those looking to gain confidence to swim in the sea as well as a training hub for open water swimming events, triathlon, sea safety and lifeguard courses. The swimming pool will be supported by 39 small business units suitable for retail, health and fitness, office space as well as a food court with street food kiosks and seating area. The design of the development draws on Brighton's rich and colourful history. Inspiration has been taken from across the city, particularly the vibrant colour palette, which includes red and yellows from the lifeguards, Brighton Pier sign and Prince Regent. The blues and greens are inspired by the sea, sky and the Brighton Blue of the Madeira Terrace, lampposts and railings throughout the city.Sea Lanes Brighton long-term plan remains to deliver a 50m swimming pool that becomes recognised as the national open water swimming centre.
