SEAthletes is a 501(c)(3) organization, which inspires people to nurture the Salton Sea, by creating opportunities to participate in sports and events on the sea.The facts show the sea is disappearing. In just the past 7 years, the sea has lost 6 percent of its former surface. If the sea continues to dry up at this unprecedented rate, it will dramatically impact the health of our lives in California and beyond along with the wildlife that depend on the water. To get more people on board with nurturing the Salton Sea today, we have to change the current narrative. For every person seen on the water through social networks, we will be able to increase Salton Sea advocates tenfold. By translating our passion into purpose, and purpose into action, we can begin to improve the community and ultimately the longevity of the sea.KAI WAI, a division of SEAthletes, partners with the Desert Recreation District and the California Department of Parks and Recreation to provide year-around programing for kids and adults both locally and across Coachella Valley. The KAI WAI Kid advocacy program exists to give every kid the opportunity to recreate on the Salton Sea.KAI WAI's mission is to engage the next generation. The young people at the Salton Sea today will be the future stewards who will be preserving the diversity and wonder of the sea.KAI WAI hosts the lowest paddling event in the world. It's called the North Shore Xtreme [NSX]. The next NSX will be held February 11, 2017 at the Salton Sea State Recreation Area. Over 200 athletes will be competing in outrigger and stand up paddle races.Your support can make a big difference in how broad our reach can be to shine a new light on the Salton Sea.
