Our proposal combines rural residential land and the work from home mindset to capitalize on the uniqueness of the Sunshine Coast which includes a high quality of life and connectivity, stewardship of natural beauty, and close proximity to urban centres.Secret Cove Heights is proposing a new land-use zone to the Sunshine Coast Regional District Board to be included in the Zoning Bylaw 310 which will govern what can happen on the subdivision. The purpose of the Dynamic Rural Zone is to create a progressive land use zone which addresses the quickly evolving nature of technology supported economic activities. The Dynamic Zone updates the sole proprietor, home-based business focus of conventional rural zones to allow for up to four employees or shared workspace which makes more efficient use of infrastructure. By creating auxiliary housing, the Dynamic Zone reduces the need to commute and the mix of sustainable agriculture with artisan maker spaces and new economy businesses supports a more sustainable neighbourhood model. The existence of high-speed internet infrastructure facilitates this zone. The Dynamic Zone is not an industrial zone or a commercial zone but a combined rural residential and work from home zone which capitalizes on the unique economy of scale that the Sunshine Coast offers which includes high quality of life and connectivity, stewardship of natural beauty, and close proximity to urban centres of Vancouver, Victoria and Nanaimo.
