SEE offers a seven-week, 80-hour curriculum that includes SAT prep and personalized college counseling services. Designed by Stanford and Ivy League students, including four perfect scorers, SEE's program includes the only SAT preparation curriculum tailored to the needs of low-income students. While our for-profit counterparts emphasize tricks and strategies, we focus on core academic material that students in under-resourced communities should have learned but may have missed. Since many of our students are the first in their families to go to college, we place extraordinary emphasis on the importance of the SAT and graduation from college; we also offer personalized college counseling services that walk students through the steps they need to take to apply to college. Our teachers and mentors attend a one-week training, which includes a review of SAT material and college admissions, sessions led by educational and social change experts, mock classroom and tutoring sessions with feedback, and a lesson-by-lesson walkthrough of our curriculum. They receive an 80-page lesson booklet, while our students receive a 250-page handbook with real SAT questions and worksheets that complement classroom sessions. Classroom sessions, capped at fifteen students, cover all relevant course material, and in small group sessions of two to five, students review practice questions that solidify their understanding of course material. The program also includes four proctored SAT examinations. Students ultimately leave the program with an understanding of over 1,000 real SAT questions and specific knowledge they need to gain admission to college.
