We need ambitious approaches to tackle the startling reality in sub-Saharan Africa. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) and World Food Program (WFP), population in this region alone will more than double, from about 1.1 billion to 2.4 billion by 2050. Struggling smallholder farmers manage 80% of the farmland and provide 80% of the food. Nearly 50% of farmers are women. 40% and higher post harvest food loss cause food insecurity, hunger, and malnutrition. We believe that today's biggest challenges will inspire leading technologies and science approaches to feed "the next billion". We believe that seeding these efforts can help dramatically reduce post harvest losses, provide safe and nutritious food, and enable the creation of small and local food businesses to alleviate extreme poverty, hunger, and malnutrition. We support organizations and help fund robust and scalable solutions with the highest long term impact.
