The Seismological Center at the University of São Paulo is a joint effort of two different institutes: The Laboratory of Seismology of the Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences and part of the Petroleum Technology, Natural Gas and Bioenergy group of the Institute of Energy and Environment.Mission:1) To monitor the seismic activity in Brazil, including the location of epicenters and calculation of magnitudes in real time, by using data acquired by the Brazilian Seismic Network (RSBR), and to distribute alerts and bulletins for the knowledge of the population and scientific research.2) To deploy, maintain and operate broad-band seismic stations from the BL network, which belongs to the RSBR, and also process, store and disseminate data produced by these stations.3) To maintain and manage a seismological database, publishing seismic bulletins in real time containing earthquakes that occur in Brazil, in cooperation with the RSBR.4) To integrate, cooperate and collaborate with other national and international seismological institutions in studies of seismicity and Earth Sciences, also encouraging the formation of new research groups on the topic of Seismology in Brazil and Latin America.e-mail: sismologia@iag.usp.br
