I was elected to the New Jersey State Senate in November of 2017, ousting incumbent Republican Jennifer Beck by over 4,000 votes. I became the first Democrat in 30 years to be elected to Monmouth County's 11th District Senate Seat. I currently serve as Vice-Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee as well as a member of the Economic Growth Committee and the Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee. On April 4, 2018, I was named Senate Majority Conference Leader and Chairman of the Bipartisan Legislative Manufacturing Caucus. I am currently the youngest member of the New Jersey State Senate. Prior to my election to the Senate, I served as Monmouth County Democratic Chairman from 2012 to 2018. A lifelong resident of Monmouth County, I volunteered as a first responder in high school and college as an EMT and Certified CPR & First Aid Instructor, attending to hundreds of 911 emergencies. I earned my Bachelor of Arts from Penn State University and launched a successful small-business which works with hundreds of local local businesses and organizations. I am also the owner of Community Magazines, which publishes to over 25,000 homes in Monmouth County each month. I previously served on the Board of Trustees for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Monmouth & Middlesex Counties, on the Board of Directors for the then-Northern Monmouth Chamber of Commerce and as President of the Hazlet Small-Business Owners Association. I am currently the president of the Vin Gopal Civic Association, a 501c3 organization which helps local residents and organizations in need.
