SENTIENT was founded to spread a message: the message that we hold a powerful source of unity with animals that is our shared ability to feel pain, love, fear, and joy. Humans and non-human animals are both SENTIENT beings. Fashion is a powerful and influential industry, and a cultural pillar in our society. It is an industry with the power to align trends and tastes in diverse social sectors, many of them culturally, economically, and socially different. No matter the differences and geographical separations, people from different backgrounds find a common denominator through a shared taste to fashion pieces and products that project elements of their esthetic preferences, as well as from a conjunct form of self-expression through fashion. Fashion is also a powerful vehicle in the exchange of narratives and imagery, behind exists a responsibility to change the world we live. We can no longer live in a world where beauty entails suffering and abuse of animals and humans. An estimated one billion animals are slaughtered every year for their skin.In an effort and commitment to be part of the change, SENTIENT was founded in 2021 to create a one stop shop, where consumers can find generational staple pieces in fashion – traditionally created in animal-derived leather, as part of an effort to eradicate this type of leather from the industry and promote vegan bio-based alternatives, such as cactus vegan leather.In sum, we create fashion with a spirit of unity & compassion, SENTIENT seeks a world built on kindness, compassion and unity towards human and non-human animals, as well as Mother Earth.
