Serious Shea is an economically viable, socially inclusive, environmentally sustainable company with the purpose of transforming the shea butter industry and regenerating the shea parklands in Burkina Faso for real impact. Serious Shea is a consortium which includes sustainable development organisations, project developers, and engineering firms with the goal of improving the shea butter value chain in Burkina Faso. We are implementing eco-processing centres, where the women's groups; who are predominantly responsible for the processing, receive training on clean processes and operation of the new mechanized technology to process shea butter cleanly and efficiently.We are working with the women processors on their production methods and efficiency in order to achieve more profit per tonne and significantly better access to market which in turn creates increased income opportunities and a higher standard of living. Serious Shea will use clean technology and drive reforestation/afforestation around each eco-processing centre that we build, and generate certified carbon credits.We are currently conducting comprehensive preparation activities with the support of the African Development Bank and World Bank. The preparation activities are focused on ensuring women's groups, who are predominantly responsible for the processing, can produce the shea butter more efficiently and also achieve significantly better access to market.
