Investment Management - London, England, United Kingdom
SG Alpha is an investment boutique for equities in Emerging Europe. The company was setup in 2009 by Steffen Gruschka. SG Alpha currently manages two long/short equity funds, the SG Alpha Emerging Europe Fund and the SG Alpha Ukraine Fund, and plans to launch a Ucits version of the Emerging Europe Fund in 2012. Our investment philosophy follows a long-biased, bottom-up approach with top-down risk overlay and value as a measure with event-driven situations generally serving as a catalyst. This is complemented by arbitrage trades which are specific to the nature of the markets. PM has been investing in the region since 1998 being one of the first institutional investors specialized in this asset class: Russia and the CIS as well as Central Europe and Turkey. During his 8 year tenure as Head of Emerging Europe at DWS (DB Group) AuM grew from $30m to $5b. Steffen received several awards including "Fund Manager of the Year" and various award nominations including "New Fund of the Year". In 2006 he moved over to the L/S side where he has been working since with his lead analyst Daria Aitmatova. Our key strengths are the Market knowledge which took 14 years to acquire, the Investment Team's language skills and the broad network of local contacts which gives us competitive advantage of sourcing unbiased information and identifying opportunities first hand rather than processed by the numerous research providers. Our aim is to grow the fund to $1 bn over the next 2-3 years.
