Shanghai Advanced Research Institute (SARI), Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a research institute jointly established by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Shanghai Municipal government. SARI is located at CAS Pudong Science and Technology Park, which covers an area of 1,050,000 m2 (790,000 m2 for research and education purposes) in the southwest of Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, Pudong New District. SARI is tasked with the planning, organization, implementation and coordination of the development of CAS Pudong Science and Technology Park, as well as the execution of its innovation and R&D activities. SARI's operation covers five research areas, namely, Frontier Studies and Advanced Materials, Information, Space and Marine, Energy and Environment, and Life Science and Technology, with a technology transfer center and education and training.
