Non-Profit - Edina, MN, us
Share a Care for Africa is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children in Africa. It is run by three Minnesotan girls, the Diaby sisters, who were inspired to make a difference in their global community. The organization stems from the Diaby family's 2011 winter break trip to Senegal, Africa to tour their father's native country. On the trip, they visited the small village of Medina Wandifa. During the stay, the local headmaster of the village school offered a tour of the school grounds and classrooms. Much to the Diaby sister's surprise the environment was nothing like the academic setting they knew in Edina, Minnesota. After coming face to face with the realities of their privilege, the girls returned home bound and determined to equal the playing field even just a bit. They began raising money for a well to be built on the campus so that students and faculty would not have to disrupt their learning for a drink of water across town. With the help of their community in Minnesota and familial connections in Senegal, the organization was able to collect more than enough funds and supplies to build the well. Since then, Share a Care has attempted a new project each year, aimed at improving the lives of the children of Africa.
