Nonprofit Organization Management - , Texas, United States
Established in 1984, Shared Housing Center, Inc. was created to provide and facilitate affordable housing options in Dallas County. Our mission has been to offer housing alternatives and supportive services that foster human independence, empowerment, and self-worth while serving a multi-cultural, multi-generational population. Since our inception, we have offered housing and program services to critically at-risk populations including older adults, single parents with young children, and individuals with special needs that are seeking to elevate themselves from homelessness, and near homeless situations, to lifestyles of relative self-sufficiency. The Green Haus is the Shared Housing Center's newest model for creating efficient, livable and affordable housing options for rebuilding families and broken lives. The organization is currently engaged in a Capital Campaign to raise the final $1,000,000 in a $3,000,000 campaign. The Green Haus will be built near the Santa Fe Trail in East Dallas where an all-green (LEED certified) 24-unit community will provide a supportive housing environment for single parents, female head of household families with dependent children, together with disabled and older adult (50+) single homeless female individuals. Construction of the Green Haus will begin in late-2014. The Dallas County-based Shared Housing Center is governed by a 25-member volunteer Board of Directors made up of area professionals with interest in helping others in the community thrive. Daily operational oversight for the non-profit is led by Executive Director Maria Machado.
