The Shark Share Global database is an online platform created to help shark and ray scientists share and receive tissue samples.Shark Share has two clear goals, first is to increase the efficiency of shark sampling. By increasing the number of available samples/tissue types more research can be focused on understanding and managing shark and ray biodiversity globally. The second goal of Shark Share is to provide an unparalleled platform to encourage multi-institutional collaborations between scientists. The Shark Share database will also help build capacity for projects beyond national borders like supporting laboratories based in developing nations. We believe by working together much more can be achieved than by working alone and we know Shark Share will help facilitate more collaborative efforts simply by letting other researchers know what tissues are available and where.
