Shouka is a record house established in 2013 by electronic musicians Amine Metani & Nessim Zghidi, under the motto "Third-World Music & Cultural Re-appropriation". It was born out of the inceptive will to document disappearing musical legacies, such as Tunisian Stambeli. It has since then widened its archiving activities to embrace emerging artists' production, which has contributed to define a peculiar North-African electronic music signature. The label is active all over the mediterranean basin, and is a structuring and federative player among the shattered local scenes and industries. It has for instance produced the "Under Frustration" compilation project, curated by Tunisian collective Arabstazy, which takes stock of the contemporary Arab electronic scene, and highlights its astonishing diversity; this project was then supported by electronic music French label InFiné, who jumped on the bandwagon and helped it reach a wider audience.Shouka supports a total approach, mingling various artistic disciplines such as video, photo, scenography and dance, in order to establish a dialogue between traditional heritages and contemporary creation, create immersive performances and build a strong identity that will stand out of ready-made molds & labels.
