Shunya Alternative's mission is to promote sustainable living by using innovative alternatives to non-degradable products so we can all have a healthier life on a cleaner planet. A styrofoam disposable plate that is used for less than an hour, lies in a landfill for hundreds of years, pollutes the soil, contaminates ground water and if incinerated, releases toxic gases. Shunya provides an alternative to these styrofoam products with degradable disposable tableware which return to soil quickly and are made of natural and renewable materials like sugarcane fibre, wheat straw and bamboo. Using a plate for 5 minutes and leaving it in the landfills for 500 years does not make sense to us.
