Social Services - Houston, TX, US
The mission of Sight into Sound is to enrich the lives of individuals with visual, physical or perceptual disabilities. We offer three program services:Radio Reading: Sight into Sound broadcasts our volunteer-produced audio programming 24/7. With this service, listeners can keep up to date with their sighted peers by tuning into current editions of the most popular magazines, listen to a live daily reading of the Houston Chronicle and enjoy some of the most current books.Custom Reading: Our clients send us printed materials to be read. Provided the materials are not already available on audio, our volunteers record them. We offer CDs, MP3 format and can email the recordings to clients. Without this service, these individuals simply would not have access to these materials. We do not censor any material. We are one of only a few sources in the country which provide this service and ours is at no cost to our clients.Description for the Blind: Our Description for the Blind volunteers are specially trained to provide audio description of select live theater and ballet performances. Patrons with vision impairment enjoy description that starts with a reading of the Playbill and continues with a detailed narrative of visual aspects such as the stage layout and props, characters, costumes, and onstage movement. All Services are provided free of charge. Please contact us for information on how you or someone you know might benefit from our services.
