The Sight Restoration Project was organized primarily for the purpose of providing eyesight restoration procedures free of charge to underprivileged people. Specifically, the Sight Restoration Project provides the restoration of eyesight by the facilitation of associated surgeries, logistics, procedures and post-operative therapies. This service occurs primarily in the Mekong Delta area of Vietnam. Vietnam is a developing country with a population of 85.9 million people, of which 17% are aged 50 years or older. Like many countries, the cause of low vision is heavily linked to cataracts - a clouding of the clear lens in the eye. In 2015 the incidence rate of cataract in Vietnam was estimated at 170,000 cases per year, and is the leading cause of blindness in the country. Sight Restoration Project focuses its charitable outreach on cataract surgery in order to make a large impact on people's lives. Cataract surgery is very effective in restoring vision. Patients are transformed from near complete blindness to nearly perfect vision through one procedure. The quick improvements in the quality of life and economic and psychological well-being of patients motivate Site Restoration to continue this wonderful work. The results are dramatic for all involved. Site Restoration Project has excellent relationships with government and non-government entities involved in screening potential patients, and maintains excellent relationships with local volunteer doctors and other medical staff. Site Restoration Project has years of on the ground experience in the areas where it operates, and has many successful events in its history.
