Higher Education - Gainesville, Florida, United States
The Florida Alpha chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded at the University of Florida in 1925 as the 63rd chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon nationally, and the 11th Fraternity at the University. Since then our chapter has grown into one of the most prominent fraternities on campus and in the state of Florida. SigEp Headquarters, Florida Alpha Alumni and the University of Florida worked hard to ensure that SigEp returned to campus as the positive force in undergraduates lives in January 2016 after suspension years prior. We formed a colony with 40 outstanding young men that were recruited to restart the organization and build the chapter to become better than ever. We received our charter January 27th 2018 after SigEp Headquarters reviewed the progress made by the chapter and the impressive impact the group of men made on campus over the two years since returning. Our chapter house, which has been our home since 1955, just underwent a complete renovation to improve the living environment for our brothers.Athletic excellence has been a point of pride for our chapter. SigEp has won many President Cups in fraternity intramural championships and continue to be competitive. Brothers of years past have been a part of club and varsity athletics including soccer, lacrosse, ice hockey, and varsity football.Excellence in the classroom is another strength of the brotherhood, as SigEp has maintained the highest GPA of IFC fraternities for the past six semesters.SigEp's prominence on campus has been furthered by brother's involvement in student organizations. A number of student body presidents hailed from our chapter in the past, while others are currently involved in Student Government, Cicerones, Campus Diplomats, design teams, university research, and a variety of other organizations. Many brothers have been inducted into the UF Hall of Fame.
