The Simple Sample Stool Collection, Containment and Disbursement system is a disposable, Class I medical device designed to improve the often humiliating process of collecting a stool sample for clinical diagnostics. The device satisfies a significant market-need to improve a diagnostic process that is neither patient friendly or clinically sound. Stool samples also play a critical role in the rapidly accelerating study of the human microbiome. The human microbiome includes billions of living organisms largely found in the gut. These microorganisms play a critical role in our physical and mental health. However, stool sample collection remains a burdensome and messy process for patients. Further, as DNA technologies in diagnostics have evolved, so too have the need for an increasing amount of smaller sample sizes. Patients are now required to handle their samples for more than ever. This also increases the risk of infection to patients/healthcare works and the integrity of samples. The Simple Sample Collection and containment system provides patients with an easier, cleaner and more dignified process to collect their stool samples. In addition to issued intellectual property, Simple Sample has filed additional patent applications for new product features and indications. 2017, Simple Sample conducted research, design, engineering and prototype fabrication with Dr. Christopher Rylander and The Medical Device Lab at the University of Texas at Austin. We completed full production specifications as well as high-resolution, functional prototypes for patient use. In conjunction with Dr. Scott Becker and Austin Gastroenterology, Simple Sample is conducting a patient field test to determine functionality, feasibility and patient satisfaction.
