SimSkin was invented by a dermatologist who realized there was a lack of adequate surgical training models during his residency. For training, most dermatology programs use low-fidelity training models which do not accurately represent human skin. These models include pig's feet, biosynthetic dressing and foam pads. Only 9% of programs use cadavers and cadavers lose fidelity after being preserved in formaldehyde. As a solution, the dermatologist spent years developing the realistic skin which we use for all of our models. Our skin consists of an epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous layer. Our specially formulated skin behaves like real skin when cut, sutured and injected. Since the company's inception we have expanded to create life-like, high fidelity surgical training models for cosmetic filler injections, sclerotherapy and basic suturing. Our R&D team is constantly innovating to create new models which will help medical students and physicians learn and perfect their surgical skills. We have also partnered with the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) to promote surgical education. The ASDS uses SimSkin models in their Cosmetic Filler Courses and Suturing Workshops.
