Founded in 1992, Siouxland Habitat for Humanity is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God's love into action by building homes, communities and hope. Siouxland Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, partner families (homeowners) invest up to 500 hours of their own labor into building their Habitat house and the houses of others. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are used to build more Habitat houses.Additionally, we have a "ReStore," a home improvement store and donation center, attached to our office. This helps raise money for Siouxland Habitat and keeps good, reusable materials in use. The ReStore has discounted prices on new and gently used building materials, furniture, home accessories and appliances available to the public! For more information about our ReStore visit our website.
