SKS PolyTech, LLC (SKS) was created as a subsidiary of International Cellulose Corporation (ICC) in order to spearhead its' research and development efforts in glass coatings. Today, ICC is the world's leading developer and manufacturer of cellulose spray-applied thermal insulation and acoustical finishes. Over the last 30 years, ICC has developed many different types of emulsion adhesives to combine with their cellulose insulation. One of the many products that spawned as a result of SKS's creation was a new high performance, water-based alternative for glass coatings in many different applications and capacities. SKS PolyTech, LLC, a Houston, Texas based research and development firm has applied for United States Patent for its high performance water borne glass coating process. The result of several years in development, this new process is designed to replace the technology commonly in use for frosting and coloring glass. This patented process makes the current, extremely hazardous, fuming, corrosive hydrofluoric acid (70%) solution and sand blasting process of glass etching/frosting applications obsolete. Additionally, this process is designed to eliminate the need for cold-end and hot-end coatings on glass bottles and the downtime due to color changes on production runs, which leads to a significant reduction in waste and cost.
