In Bogor Municipality until 1988, there were only two Catholic high schools, namely Regina Pacis High School and Mardi Yuana High School. Therefore, the Budi Mulia Foundation for the West Java Branch in Bogor moved to establish SMA Budi Mulia and initiated by the Head of the Branch Foundation: Br. Bellarminus and JBF. Mudjijono, BA, a teacher at Budi Mulia Junior High School since 1975.At that time, the Budi Mulia Central Foundation in Jakarta had yet to give its approval even though the licensing requirements, including a feasibility study, had been made in a proposal and the support from the community, Catholic schools, and the church was extensive.After many years running and the Chairman of the Central Foundation's change, namely: Brother Anton Lumbanraja, who served as the new Chairman of the Budi Mulia Foundation in 1988, the idea of establishing Budi Mulia High School reiterated by JBF. Mudjijono, BA and was welcomed and given the mandate to make his proposal in February 1988.Based on the mandate of the Chairman of the Budi Mulia Central Foundation, JBF. Mudjijono, BA, together with the Secretary of the Branch Foundation: Br. Stani Suhud, prepared all the requirements for a feasibility study and a proposal for establishing SMA Budi Mulia in Bogor.After chronologically pursued licensing for five months, finally on July 4, 1988, the Decree of the Head of the Regional Office of the Department of Education and Culture, Prop. West Java down with its SK number: 390 / IO2 / Kep / 1988. With this decree's issuance, Budi Mulia Bogor High School began to carry out operational activities with registered status in the 1988/1989 school year. The number of class I students in the first year was 198 people divided into five classes.
