Brothers Frederick and George Smart started out from a rented premises in Slaney Street, Birmingham not far from Snow Hill Station back in the late-19th century. They founded F & G Smart in 1870 where they manufactured shop furniture with the help from George's father-in-law who was a brass founder and patternmaker from Aston.The company has been through two World Wars and due to their manufacturing capabilities in the First World War they produced ammunition boxes for the Ministry of Defence and in the Second World War they produced components and assemblies for Spitfires, Stirlings and Lancaster bombers.6 generations later business is thriving and as a leading supplier of Shopfitting and Display Equipment and specialist in Retail Shop Shelving in 2018 the family took the opportunity to join partnership with ABC Group which includes ABC Racking a supplier of pallet racking and storage equipment. Due to the increased product range the company have now moved to a new larger 35,000 sq. ft. warehouse with brand new showroom facility.
