Computer Hardware - Turin, Piedmont, Italy
The SMILIES "reSilient coMputer archItectures and LIfE Sciences" group at the Department of Control and Computer Engineering of Politecnico di Torino is a highly multi-disciplinary team of people, including computer architects, computer scientists, and domain-specific scientists. We excel at the intersection of computer hardware and architectures, novel programming paradigms, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and algorithms, and we apply our skills to domain-specific science goals. The application domains we embrace include reliable and secure, i.e., "resilient," computer architectures for safety-critical domains (e.g., automotive, aerospace, railways, and in general safety-critical infrastructures) and advanced and holistic computing techniques for knowledge discovery in Complex Systems for Life Sciences (e.g., bioinformatics, systems, and computational biology, bio fabrication, brain dynamics, etc.). The heterogeneity of the background of our members and the multi-disciplinary aim of our group is our key strength. We strongly believe that contamination of solutions from very different domains is the crucial driver of innovation, and we apply this paradigm every day in our research.
