Multi-sports are characterized by three core disciplines – swimming, cycling, and running. They come in several forms, which include triathlons, duathlons, aquathlons etc, and are increasingly gaining interest and support in Singapore. This trend is made apparent with the leap in numbers from the mere dozen or so that competed in the 1980s, to the overwhelming 3,800 at the 2010 OSIM Triathlon. However, up till 2007, Singapore Management University (SMU) has not been appropriately represented in any of these multi-sport races. All this changed when Lau Ming Kwang, affectionately known as MK, founded the Aquathlon Club. Stringing together other avid multi-sport athletes in SMU, our small brave team started proposals for the formation of the club back in 2006. The club's main objective has always been to introduce its members to an increasingly popular lifestyle sport; and for them to compete as a united team. Aquathlon Club members wish to be affectionately known as SMURTS, short for SMU Turtles. The turtle is characterized by traits that the Aquathlon club hopes to inculcate– the ability to endure regardless of terrain, and the discipline to complete the distance, be it slow and steady.
