The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or, commonly called SNAP, is a government program that helps over 38 million people access food for their families. The most nutritional food in any locale is its locally grown food, often sold in farmers markets. SNAP payments are accepted at farmers markets, but the technology is well behind the times-- and it limits the amount of access SNAP recipients have to the best nutrition available to their families. At a time when SNAP is now used more than ever (applications are up 16% during COVID, and the USDA just increased its budget by $2 billion), markets are running out of coins-- and therefore coin rationing limits the SNAP recipient's access to the best food available for their families-- and due to the nature of wooden coins, they are often also lost or go unused.Snappier, because we firmly believe in the value of local food to all members of a community, has designed a web based application that will remove the need for wooden tokens entirely. This eliminates the recipient's limitations in accessing food, and, from the market and governance standpoint-- improves operational efficiency and data management of the program. We hope to create ease in the process for producers and distributors of local food (farms and markets) and support food assistance program customers in their journey towards building healthier lives.
