Small side soccer is played with teams of 5, 6 or 7 a side and is now the most popular format of the beautiful game in the UK. Games are typically played on outdoor Astroturf pitches or in traditional sports halls. General rules follow the Laws of association football, with a few exceptions helping to make the game faster more exciting and free flowing. Historically small side soccer has typically involved a group of mates having a game of five a side down the local sports hall, but now with the increasing number of improved facilities and professional league organisers the game has become more and more advanced.
