It is the ordinance N ° 69-59 of July 28th, 1969 which dissolves the public establishment of Electricity and Gas of Algeria (EGA), resulting from the French laws of nationalization of 1947, and promulgates the statutes of the National Society Electricity and Gas (Sonelgaz).In 1969 Sonelgaz was already a large company with a staff of some 6000 agents. It served 700,000 customers.As soon as it was put in place, the company carried out, in addition to the sale of energy, the installation and maintenance of domestic appliances running on electricity or gas.It has promoted the use of natural gas and electricity in the industrial, artisanal and domestic sectors.
