City Government/Municipal Government - Kalamazoo, MI, US
Known since our establishment in 2003 as The Southwest Michigan Black Heritage Society, SHARE is emerging with an expanded mission and vision. As we have grown and worked closely with foundations and other groups, it has become apparent that we are much more than a historical society and that our name is no longer descriptive of what we do.SHARE is taking new initiatives to educate the community on the importance of our region's African American heritage and to act as a clearing house for information on activities and services in our region that center on racial equity. SHARE will continue to research and document the history of African Americans in southwest Michigan. Added to that mission will be fostering connections and conversations on race and providing awareness of racism and the broad societal benefits of its elimination.
