(le français suit)The SSAC is a registered charitable organization founded in 1974 by a broadly-based group of people interested in encouraging a greater understanding and development of the study of Canadian architecture. Included in this study is an examination of both historical and cultural issues relating to buildings, streetscapes, cities, and the countryside.Its principal role is to serve as a means of communication among members of the architectural community. It has also been involved in encouraging the collection and preservation of the country's architectural records, has stimulated and supported important scholarly publications, and, through both its members and its Journal, has been active in the preservation of the built environment.-----La SÉAC est un organisme sans but lucratif fondé en 1974 par un groupe de personnes d'intérèts divers qui désiraient encourager l'étude de l'architecture canadienne pour en assurer une meilleure connaissance et une plus grande compréhension. Cette étude porte sur les questions historiques et culturelles touchant l'environnement bâti, le paysage urbain, la ville et la campagne.Le rôle principal de la SÉAC est de faciliter les échanges entre les membres de la communauté architecturale. La Société encourage ainsi le dépôt et la préservation d'archives d'architecture canadienne, la publication d'études spécialisées et, grâce à son organe de presse – le Journal – et aux efforts de ses membres, elle prend une part active à la conservation de l'environnement bâti. Depuis la fondation de la SÉAC, le nombre d'études sur l'architecture canadienne croît à un rythme soutenu.
