The Winery: Le Miccine has always been an important element of the Chianti countryside. In the past the estate served as a way station for travellers and their donkeys to rest. The name Le Miccine comes from the dialect word that means small female donkeys. The estate is family owned and is lead by a young and dynamic team. The estate respects the traditions of the Chianti Classico area while applying innovative thinking in the vineyard and winery practices which are certifed Organic. The estate strives to reach balance and innovation in the vineyard and winery practices so as to offer quality wines with an unforgettable story.The Owners: The Papini-Cook family from Montreal, Canada with Scottish and Italian heritage. Paula Papini Cook, who has a Masters in Viticulture and Enology manages the family estate along with three employees.The Wines: Since the beginning Le Miccine decided to create terroir driven, authentic wines by using autochtonous grape varieties typical of the Chianti Classico region: Sangiovese, Malvasia Nera and Colorino. Le Miccine wines have won prestigeous awards from Gambero Rosso, Slow Wine and Decanter and are distributed internationally in vibrant cities such as Montreal, New York, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing and across cities in Europe. Le Miccine produces four red wines that are exported in 12 countries and a small amount of white and rosé wine that is sold exclusively on-site.
