The Socio-Technical Risk Analysis (SoTeRiA) Research Laboratory, directed by Professor Zahra Mohaghegh, in the Grainger College of Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), advances risk science and applications for the safety of complex technological systems such as commercial nuclear power plants and advanced reactors, civil aviation, and oil industries. SoTeRiA Research Laboratory, established in the Department of Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering (NPRE) at UIUC, is a multidisciplinary research laboratory that has a proven track record of developing scientific and innovative approaches for risk assessment, risk management, and risk-informed decision-making and regulation. SoTeRiA lab's key research impacts include (1) making scholarly contributions to risk analysis of complex socio-technical systems; (2) bridging foundational risk analysis research with industry and regulatory challenges; (3) providing strong leadership in risk analysis conferences; (4) advancing risk-informed solutions for new technologies; and (5) promoting international safety and security through risk analysis.
